Knight's Templar Uniforms

The Grand Commandery of Virginia has uniform requirements in its constitution and statutes but they can be hard to decipher. In addition, if you don’t know where to look, putting a uniform together can be pretty difficult and expensive. For these reasons, we have put together some links to items you might find useful and affordable. Note that these uniform items are listed for Sir Knights who are not past commanders. If you are a PC or past something else, you likely know where to get your specific items, but feel free to contact us anyway if you need help.

If you need to put together a uniform piece by piece, that is fine. This is an expensive process and everyone understand that it might take months to assemble the whole magilla. If you need to borrow items, talk to the Commander, Recorder, or Armorer. We have some items, even full suits, to loan to Sir Knights, so take advantage of that as you need to.

Style of Uniform

These items below are for the full uniform. If you choose, you can wear the fatigue uniform or summer uniform, but each Sir Knight should have the full uniform if he has any type at all. Note that the Orders can only be conferred in full uniform.

Who should Have the Uniform

If you are a Sir Knight or thinking of joining, do not be scared by the cost of the uniform. If you are an officer or are getting ready to get in line, you should have a uniform or should be on your way to piecing something together. As a general rule, each Sir Knight should have a uniform. However, non-officers are not required to have it. But you will look pretty darned cool once you have it.

Welcome to Arlington Commandery No. 29, Knight's Templar of Virginia Social Service Organization

Uniform Coat and Trousers

  • Black double-breasted suit with two columns of front buttons
  • This is the same as a Chief Petty Officer’s service dress jacket
  • Note: order this without sleeve crosses; order WITH shoulder Velcro if you plan on being a dais officer (Of course, that can always be added later)
  • Mayo’s Discount Suits
  • Lighthouse Uniform Company

Suit Buttons

  • Yes, we have regulation 35-line Templar black buttons for Sir Knights
  • You can find flat buttons some places but some of us have the fancier raised buttons

Chapeau

  • Universal Chapeau – Adjustable headband and a nice product.

Sword

  • Must have a chain from the tip of the hilt to be part of the Virginia uniform
  • New London Regalia – Sword model 16C (with chain)
  • Fratline – Bargain basement prices. The $50 sword will get you by until you can afford a nicer one, but don’t count on it being a thing of ease or beauty.
Sword Sling – This goes over your right shoulder and across your body. The sword attachment pokes out of the sword slit in your jacket.

Gloves

  • Buff (not white). If cloth, they should have rubber nubs on the palm so you do not accidentally lose control of the sword. Our Commandery has some of these in stock.
